After earning the ire of social media following her hosting stint at yesterday’s proclamation rally of the “UniTeam” tandem of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte, Toni Gonzaga announced that she is leavingPinoy Big Brotheras its main host after 16 years — fulfilling what many suspected was the writing on the wall.

“It has been my greatest honor to host (Pinoy Big Brother) for 16 years,” the actress-host wrote on Instagram. “From witnessing all my co-hosts transition from housemates to PBB hosts are just some of the best moments in my lifesa bahay ni Kuya!(at Big Brother’s house!)”

Gonzaga has been hosting the mega-hit reality show on ABS-CBN since it premiered in 2006, which ran over 100 episodes.

Yesterday, the actress-host was the subject of online criticism after she hosted the Marcos-Duterte campaign kickoff and introduced its senatorial slate, among them House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, who led the non-renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise in 2020 that cost the jobs of over 11,000 of Gonzaga’s co-workers.

It was also during the Marcos regime when ABS-CBN was ordered off-air, with former president Marcos seizing the network’s properties.

While Gonzaga is one of ABS-CBN’s most prized talents, her ties with Marcos Jr. run deep: the former senator was a primary sponsor at her wedding to director Paul Soriano. Soriano also directed Bongbong’s latest campaign ads, as evidenced by his Instagram stories.

The host has been on a roll these past months after she welcomed Bongbong on her YouTube channel, and yesterday’s appearance has clearly defined where she sides on the political fence.

Does Gonzaga’s latest move signify that she will soon bid goodbye to her mother network of several years? Only time will tell.
